Post-Presentation Thoughts

After the presentation, I have come away with a few paths that I can take to alter my idea to better the overall pictures. First of all being the location.

I am happy with the variety of locations I have looked to present in my pre-production folder as it meant I could show a range. When presenting the locations, I felt that St Mary’s Guildhall was the best choice, due to both it being inside and also matching the historical past. I however was advised that the Medieval Bishop’s Palace, although a wrong time period, has a much more aesthetic look to it. Although the palace is in ruins, some of the rooms of the palace still remain; these could be perfect areas to create my photographs.

Another element that was discussed is the style in which I am going to create my final pieces. My original idea is that I would create a 5 image piece that shows a very selective chunk of the story, only showing the transformation of Arachne from human to spider (much resembling the work of Duane Michals). However it was brought up that I could actually breakdown the story and create between 3-4 of the main segments, this will not only enhance the fact that I’m telling a narrative, but also help to give it a stronger link to the actual mythological story.

Budget

This is a full breakdown of everything that I have spent so far.  The first list includes basically all of the props (dress, helmet) and extras I felt I needed to make some (glue, fabric.)

Dress (Spider Legs)
£10.41
Purple Dress (Arachne)
£5.49
White Poly-Cotton
£1.25
Gold String (Shield)
£1.40
Roman Helmet (Minerva)
£5.90
Silver Fabric (Shield)
£2.50
Weave
£3.75
Glue
£1.50
Brush
£0.50
Potion Bottle
£4.45
Total
£37.15

I then created another list, which includes the costs I would have if I had to book out all the equipment out. I found that ‘calumet’ was really effective for actually camera equipment, but I had to use ‘hireacamera’ for the lighting. I then chose to use ‘studiophotogallery’ to give me a quote on booking a studio. I chose a 10am till 2pm time slot, as that’s the closest I could get to the 9:30am till 1:30pm that I would have for a studio on campus.
