Bishop's Palace Framing

After visiting the graffiti location, it only confirmed my choice of location being the Bishop’s Palace. I then took the story and disembodied it as seen in “Story Breakdown”; this has given me a clear vision of what I am looking for from the location. Within the ruins of the palace, there is a great inside location; which was the old east wing of the palace. This has a lot of opportunities to dissect the space and split it up for each part of the story.

These stairs would work extremely well for the first of my narrative shots. The main reason for this choice is the ability I have in giving one of the characters a raised ocular to both the other character and the camera. If I was to use this raised ocular with Arachne, it could show her stubbornness to Athena and her sense of power over her challenger. This area would take a lot more time to create my lighting set up for because of the different levels and the wall, I could however use radio triggers as it would allow me to put them behind the wall and still trigger them to set off the flash guns.

In this frame, you can see two large barred windows, which helps to split the frame into almost two halves. This segment of the building would work perfectly for the conflict between Athena and Arachne during their contest of skill. This shot will have to be carefully framed however due to the lights on the floor. I will need to frame the shot so that they aren’t integrated into the shot, I also need to be careful to then not have the picture too top heavy and have a whole lot of blank space above the characters.

This area of the room poses a lot of powerful structure with the metal barred door as being the central background focal point. This area would be great to have the scene depicting the pity of Arachne, in which Athena pulls her down from hanging herself and gives her the potion to turn into a spider. The strong foreground imagery would work extremely well at being paralleled by the strong backdrop.

Because Arachne would not really move from her place as she is turning into the spider, I could then just use this same backdrop again. I could even use the same lighting set-up, this similarity will help to link the two shots together, as if indicating that the transformation has happened over a short and discomforting period of time.

Professional Liaison

Location -

As you can see from the above screen grabs from my email, I have been in contact with the manager of the Bishop’s Palace to ensure that I am able to do my photography shoot within the building. In the first two screen grabs, you can see I had arranged to do a practice shoot before we broke up for Christmas. In the third screen grab, you can see how I have informed her that I had family issues and had to return home early, but still wanted to use the building.

Although she had replied to my first email (second screen grab), due to her working only weekends I found it hard to get a reply quickly, so I actually went to see her to ask her if I could still use the building, to which she agreed that I could.

Models -

For my models, I felt it a lot easier to use Facebook rather than using email, this meant that I could create a small chat with just the two models. This method ensures that I know it has sent to them and have a faster method of chatting to them about the shoot. Although I had agreed with the manager that I would do the 17th, when I went in to talk to her I had already had information fro my model Emma that she was unable to do that Sunday. So I discussed about doing the shoots on the 24th and 31st January, which she agreed on.

An example of when I could get information to my models more efficiently than email was to send them the time schedule for the day, as you can see below, for both the 24th and the 31st.
