Arachne
With this project, I aim to produce, through a
collection of five images, a chosen section of the story of Arachne. I want to
solely focus on the final segment of the myth. It will entail the results of
the weaving contest between Athena and Arachne; however mainly project the
morphing of Arachne’s human body into the spider, under the spiteful spell of
Athena. Although I have want to represent the end of the story the most, I aim
to incorporate small elements and indicators that give direct links to the rest
of the previous happenings before this moment that I will be photographing. Through
my photography I intend to communicate every step of the unsettling and
disturbing nature of the transformation that Minerva puts Arachne through to
create the metamorphosis from human to mythological creature. The final photos
will be taken in the St Mary’s Guildhall, which has a parallel running Roman historical
heritage to the story I am trying to tell.
